Fairmont Maldives Hotel Review; a perfect stay in paradise

It certainly is hard to find a destination more secluded and more luxurious than that of the luxury resorts in the Maldives. The Maldives is literal vacation paradise with pristine blue ocean water, tropical climates, and endless amounts of luxury. There is an abundance of resorts to choose when booking a luxury getaway but the Fairmont Maldives - Sirru Fen Fushi is easily one of the best.

Where is the Fairmont Maldives?

The resort is located on its own private island in the Shaviyani Atoll. To get there you will take a 50 minute Seaplane flight from the main airport and capital of Male. Your luxury stay begins even before you leave the airport. Upon arrival, you will be escorted to a private lounge for Fairmont hotel guests as you wait for your Seaplane to depart. You will be able to cool off, eat and drink, and even take a shower.

The Seaplane is small and lacks any luxury, but the window views will make it the most memorable. You will enjoy endless views flying over all of the islands and resorts. Shortly you will be descending and see the Fairmont in the horizon as you descend in to in to the country’s largest resort lagoon. The island itself is one of the larger islands properties and boasts soft white sand beaches, lush tropical landscaping, and the bluest waters earning it the nickname the “secret water island”.

What are the rooms like at the Fairmont Maldives?

There are 120 villas on the island each with beautifully laid out boho chic and luxurious interiors. The villas are very spacious both inside and out with beautiful plunge pools, outdoor bathtubs, and an abundance of outdoor space to lounge and enjoy peace and seclusion.

Beach Villas

There are Sunrise and Sunset facing Beach Villas as well as the larger Deluxe Villas. With the timezone changes, I found myself naturally waking up early so it was great to have a Sunrise facing property. You will most likely be watching sunset from the bar or beach so the Sunset Villas aren’t as necessary .

The Beach Villas are 3,875 SF featuring direct beach access, a plunge pool, lounge areas, interior and outdoor showers, outdoor bathtub, and beautifully designed interior spaces. The Deluxe Villas are even larger at over 5,000 SF!

Tented Jungle Villa

This is not something you will find at many resorts and is a very unique experience! This room brings glamping to a new level. With a beautiful interior space and outdoor bathrooms, you have over 5,000 SF including an outdoor movie theater projection screen, a pool, and the most outdoor space of all the villas.

These are located in the center of the island so they do not have direct beach access which adds to the level of privacy. Of course, the beach is only just steps away so there is no issue not having direct access. This is a great room to book for a few days if you are spending an extended time on the island and want to do a split stay or looking for a larger space during your visit.

Over Water Villas

Nothing screams Maldives more than the Over Water Villas. These villas are 1,700 SF and are found both on either the Sunrise or Sunset side. These rooms feature huge interior bathrooms with an oversized copper bathtub, shower, glass floor in the bathroom, and a beautiful infinity plunge pool with plenty of deck space overlooking the ocean waters. The Grand Over Water Villas feature more space at over 2,500 SF. These are certainly some of the larger overwater villas offered in the Maldives.

Two and Three Bedroom Overwater Villa

For groups or larger families, there are multi bedroom villas at over 4,600 and 5,660 of space which feature the Overwater villa footprint plus a larger interior and exterior space.

Two and Three Bedroom Beach Villas

At over 8,000 or 12,000SF respectively in the two and three bedroom beach villas. These units have larger shared common spaces as well as larger pools make this the ultimate private or group gathering getaway.

What is there to do at the Fairmont ?

The resort is known for its iconic infinity pool that stretches the entire width of the island! One end of the pool is also home to the largest hot tub in the Maldives! All of the villas feature private pools so you still feel a sense of privacy and tranquility at the main resort pool and is not crowded like at most resorts.

The Willow Stream Spa is the perfect place to treat yourself. I recommend booking a massage or spa service as it will most likely be one of the best spa experiences you will have.

The gym is one of the biggest resort gyms I have seen with plenty of cardio equipment and a great outdoor shaded area that houses free weights and machines. Start off your morning in the gym or for a sunrise yoga class before indulging at their large breakfast buffet with all those delicious and endless amounts of breakfast pastries.

The Activity Center has Table Tennis, Pool, and other activities for guests. There is also a neighboring kids center for your kids to enjoy others as well as for parents to enjoy some relaxation

The resort has endless amounts of lounge areas with hammocks, cabanas, and other relaxing areas to sit and enjoy the day or sunset.

Take the complimentary fins and snorkel and go explore the ocean. Inside the lagoon there is a beautiful colarium that has amazing sea life. The opposite end of the island has deeper waters where you can commonly see sharks, rays, and many different types of fish.

Enjoy the water activities like a jetski, paddle-board or even take a Sunset Dolphin Cruise.

What is the food like at the Fairmont?

The Fairmont will keep you full and happy for your entire stay. Start your morning at Raha Market for an amazing Breakfast Buffet including a fresh juice bar, omelet station, rotating international stations, and all of the pastries you can imagine. You are typically stuffed from the buffet and won't find yourself eating until it is time for dinner.

If you get hungry, order in villa dining or have food and drinks delivered to you right on the beach or at the pool. There is the Onu Onu which is a great beach beach bar which serves food and drinks all day too.

Raha Market has lunch and dinner buffets or you can have more of a fine dining experience and book at the a la carte restaurants.

Azure is a great seafood restaurant that sits over the water just like an overwater villa. Get a spot along the water and watch the sharks and fish swim below you as you indulge in gourmet dishes under the stars.

Kata is an amazing Japanese restaurant with classic asian flavors and some of the best sushi you can enjoy.

My favorite part of the Fairmont Dining is your room comes with the amazing Breakfast Buffet. Additionally, unlike many resorts in the Maldives, you can book Half Board (Dinner included) or Full Board options (Lunch and Dinner) so all your expenses are known ahead of time.

The Fairmont Maldives was always on the top of my lists of resorts to visit and it exceeded all of my high expectations. I can't wait to go back again.
