How to Get to the Phi Phi Islands
The only way to get to the Phi Phi Islands is by boat. If you are planning a multi-day trip to the islands then I would recommend taking the convenient and cheaper Ferry. If you are looking for a day trip excursion you will want to find a day charter that can take you by speedboat first thing in the morning. You will want to beat the crowds by getting there before the Ferry.
From Phuket:
Take a ferry from Rassada Pier (approximately 2 hours) or a speedboat (about 45 minutes). Ferries are more affordable, while speedboats are faster and more convenient.
From Krabi:
Ferries depart from Klong Jilad Pier, taking around 90 minutes. Speedboats are also available for quicker access.
Island Hopping Tours:
Many travelers opt for organized boat tours from Phuket or Krabi, which include stops at popular spots like Maya Bay and Bamboo Island. You can also rent a longtail boat from the main island for visiting the popular spots as well.
If you are coming from a luxury resort on Phuket or Krabi then I would recommend just doing a day trip and leaving all your luggage and belongings at your resort. Use the day to explore the island and all of the beautiful scenic locations.

The best time to visit is during the dry season (November to April) when the weather is sunny, and the seas are calm. Avoid visiting during the monsoon season (May to October), as heavy rains and rough waters can disrupt travel plans. The boat ride to the islands is long and you do not want to be travelling when the water is rough.

Famous for its appearance in the movie The Beach, Maya Bay is a must-visit destination with its turquoise waters and white sandy shores. The ocean water and beaches are way nicer here than the neighboring islands. This is a very touristy spot so it is best to come here first thing in the morning. Unfortunately due to the health and protection of the reefs, you can’t swim in the waters here.
